The acclaimed film ‘Vicky Donor’ is set to grace the big screen once more, with a re-release scheduled for April 18, 2025.
This initiative, part of the PVR-INOX Curated Shows, celebrates the film’s enduring impact and pays homage to the talents of the late Jayanta Das and Akshay Verma, ANI reported from Mumbai.
Originally released in 2012, ‘Vicky Donor’ marked the directorial debut of Shoojit Sircar and introduced audiences to the compelling performances of Ayushmann Khurrana and Yami Gautam. The film boldly addressed the subject of sperm donation, blending humor with heartfelt storytelling, and challenged societal taboos with grace and wit.
The narrative centers on Vicky Arora, portrayed by Khurrana, a spirited Delhi youth who becomes a sperm donor under the guidance of Dr. Baldev Chaddha, played by Annu Kapoor. Yami Gautam’s character, Ashima Roy, adds depth to the story as Vicky’s love interest, navigating the complexities of their relationship amidst societal expectations.
The film’s re-release is not just a nostalgic journey but also a recognition of its critical acclaim. Vicky Donor garnered three National Film Awards, including Best Popular Film Providing Wholesome Entertainment, and accolades for its supporting cast, highlighting its significant contribution to Indian cinema.
Director Shoojit Sircar expressed his sentiments on social media, stating, “VICKY DONOR rereleasing on 18th April. PVR-INOX CURATED SHOWS. A tribute to our dear friends Jayanta Das and Akshay Verma.”
Producer John Abraham, reflecting on his inaugural production venture, shared, “My debut film as a producer is back on the big screen this weekend—April 18th! A bold, ahead-of-its-time story with a message that still hits home.”
Yami Gautam also took to Instagram to commemorate the occasion, writing, “The film where it all started for us. See you in cinemas again. Save the date – 18th April !!!! #VickyDonorinTheatres.”
As the film returns to theatres, it offers both longtime fans and new viewers an opportunity to experience a story that remains as relevant and engaging today as it was over a decade ago.
