Vodafone Idea’s content platform Vi Movies & TV has announced its entry into the fast-growing microdrama segment through a partnership with Bullet Microdrama app. The move marks the first time microdramas will be made available on the Vi Movies & TV app, targeting the rising demand for mobile-first, short-form storytelling.
According to a Vi press release, the integration brings a new category of bite-sized, serialized content to the platform, aligning with changing consumption patterns among smartphone-first audiences. Microdramas have been witnessing rapid growth globally and in India, with industry data indicating that the country accounted for 11 per cent of global downloads in the category during the first quarter of 2025, reaching 35 million downloads.
The segment is expected to expand significantly in the coming years, with projections estimating the Indian microdrama market to reach $1.5 billion by 2026 and further scale to $4.5 billion by 2030. This growth is being driven largely by younger viewers, increasing adoption in Tier II and Tier III markets, and a shift towards shorter, high-engagement content formats.
The partnership also strengthens Vi’s broader strategy of expanding its free content offerings. Vi Movies & TV already aggregates content from over 20 OTT platforms, including SonyLIV, ZEE5, and Amazon MX Player, along with more than 400 live TV channels, positioning itself as a one-stop destination for entertainment.
The newly added microdrama catalogue will feature a multilingual mix of titles across genres such as romance, drama, thriller, and comedy. The initial lineup includes shows like ‘Rickshaw Romeo’, ‘AutoRaja’, ‘Lady Boss’, ‘Comedy Couple’, and ‘Sweet 16’, catering to diverse regional audiences.
