TV9 Bangla organised the latest edition of its flagship health conclave, Suswasthya 2026, bringing together eminent doctors, healthcare institutions, policymakers and medical professionals to celebrate excellence in healthcare and honour those whose work has transformed countless lives.

The event recognised outstanding contributions across different fields of medicine, with a special focus on doctors whose dedication continues to strengthen healthcare services in West Bengal and beyond.

According to a press release issued by TV9 Bangla, ‘Suswasthya 2026’ is dedicated to acknowledging the commitment and service of the medical fraternity. The programme will be telecast on TV9 Bangla over two weekends—August 8 and 9, and again on August 15 and 16, at 5.25 pm.

The conclave was attended by several distinguished dignitaries, including Dr. Sharadwat Mukherjee, Cabinet Minister, Department of Health & Family Welfare, Government of West Bengal; Agnimitra Paul, Cabinet Minister, Department of Urban Development & Municipal Affairs, Government of West Bengal; and Dr. Indranil Khan, Minister of State for the Departments of Youth Services & Sports and Consumer Affairs, Government of West Bengal.

One of the key highlights of the event was the presentation of the Lifetime Achievement Honour to Prof. Dr. Subir Chatterjee, Founder of Park Clinic, Kolkata, in recognition of his lifelong contribution to paediatrics and medical education, including his pioneering work in the separation and treatment of conjoined twins.

Another Lifetime Achievement Honour was conferred upon Dr. Shibaji Basu, one of India’s most respected urologists. At the age of 100, Dr. Basu has made remarkable contributions to urological care and has treated thousands of patients over the decades, including soldiers and war victims during the Bangladesh Liberation War.

The event also honoured Dr. Asok Ray with the Special Recognition Honour for his selfless service to underprivileged patients in and around Asansol. Known for providing affordable treatment—often free of cost or for a consultation fee of just Re. 1—Dr. Ray’s dedication to accessible healthcare has earned widespread respect.

In addition, the TV9 Bangla Excellence in Healthcare Honour was presented to Dr. Shib Shankar Dey, Dr. Shishir Biswas, Dr. Chirantan Banerjee, Dr. Paban Mondal, Dr. Dayal Bandhu Majumdar, along with several hospitals and healthcare institutions, for their exceptional contribution to patient care and service to society.

Speaking on the occasion, Amritanshu Bhattacharya, Managing Editor and Business Head, TV9 Bangla, said that while people often remember the phrase “Health is Wealth,” the true value of healthcare professionals is realised only during moments of crisis. He said the initiative was created to recognise doctors whose service to humanity often goes unnoticed and to showcase the remarkable achievements of Bengal’s medical community. He added that the programme aims to inspire people by highlighting the dedication and achievements of healthcare professionals who continue to make a meaningful difference in society.
