Star Sports Network, in collaboration with the Esports World Cup Foundation (EWCF), has announced the acquisition of broadcasting rights for the highly anticipated Esports World Cup (EWC) 2024.
This ground-breaking event, taking place in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia from July 3 to August 25, will unite the global gaming community in a premier competition featuring a unique multi-game format.
Over eight weeks, the EWC will showcase the world’s top esports clubs competing across 21 of the most popular game titles, marking it as the largest multi-game esports tournament ever. As the official broadcaster, Star Sports will provide comprehensive coverage of the tournament, complete with in-depth commentary in both English and Hindi.
Star Sports will stream the Esports World Cup on its YouTube channel and broadcast it on linear TV via Star Sports First and Star Sports 2, ensuring wide accessibility for esports enthusiasts. This initiative follows the network’s successful broadcast of the BGMI Masters in 2022, which drew millions of viewers and highlighted the immense popularity of esports in India.
The EWC will feature a prize pool exceeding $60 million (INR 500 crore), making it the largest in esports history. The tournament will introduce a cross-game competition format, awarding prizes for individual game titles and overall club performances.
Mike Rich, Head of Warner Bros. Discovery, Sports & Lifestyle International Brand Partnerships, emphasized the alignment of esports with Warner Bros. Discovery’s ambition to become a premier destination for sports and entertainment. “Esports World Cup is a competition where sport meets entertainment, and partnering with the EWC allows us to reach new audiences and celebrate its fandom,” he added.
Ralf Reichert, CEO of the Esports World Cup Foundation, expressed excitement about the partnership by saying, “We are thrilled to partner with Star Sports to bring the excitement and drama of the Esports World Cup to a broader global audience. This collaboration allows us to leverage their extensive network and expertise to create amazing content and reach new fans.”
