Tanushree Das and Saumyananda Sahi’s Bengali drama ‘Shadowbox’ (‘Baksho Bondi’) has been officially selected for the prestigious 75th Berlin International Film Festival. The film will compete in the newly introduced Perspectives section, marking a significant global recognition for Indian cinema.
Featuring National Award-winning actor Tillotama Shome as Maya, alongside Chandan Bisht, Sayan Karmakar, and Suman Saha, ‘Shadowbox’ presents a deeply moving narrative, IANS reported.
The film follows Maya, a woman balancing multiple jobs while caring for her teenage son and her husband, a retired soldier battling PTSD. When her husband mysteriously disappears, Maya is forced into a relentless fight for survival, testing her strength, resilience, and love.
Debutant director Das shared her vision behind Shadowbox stating, “We wanted to explore the invisible battles fought every day within families—the quiet endurance of women, the stigma around mental health, and the ways in which survival is negotiated in an unforgiving world. Maya’s journey is a reflection of countless women who fight to keep their families together despite the odds.”
With a gripping teaser recently unveiled, anticipation is high for the film’s Berlin premiere, which is set to shine a global spotlight on this compelling Bengali drama.
