The teaser of the upcoming animated feature film ‘Return of the Jungle’ from Emmy-nominated Indian animation studio Vaibhav Studios has been unveiled, offering a first glimpse into a story rooted in Indian folklore with a contemporary twist. The film is scheduled to release in theatres across India on May 29.
According to an ANI report, the film is described as a modern-day Panchatantra-inspired tale set in present-day India. It follows a group of fourth-grade children who rediscover confidence and courage through enchanting jungle stories narrated by their grandfather. The teaser brings together elements of fantasy and reality, featuring animals alongside cricket-playing kids who dream of becoming superheroes.
The project has already generated international interest, having been showcased at the Cannes Film Market. Directed by Vaibhav Kumaresh, known for creating the JioStar mascot Simpoo and Warner Bros Discovery’s ‘Lamput’, the film aims to push the boundaries of Indian animation storytelling.
Sharing his vision, Kumaresh described the film as a fusion of contemporary Indian life and rich folktales, blending nostalgic storytelling with diverse musical elements such as bhajan, calypso, and qawwali. He highlighted that ‘Return of the Jungle’ is designed as an emotional and wholesome family entertainer, with themes that resonate across age groups.
With its mix of humour, music, and a coming-of-age narrative layered with cultural roots, the film positions itself as a fresh offering in India’s animation space, aiming to connect both younger audiences and adults through a shared sense of nostalgia and imagination.
