Prime Video unveiled the exclusive first look of its upcoming Hindi original series ‘Daldal’ at the 56th International Film Festival of India (IFFI) in Goa yesterday, offering audiences an early glimpse into what promises to be a gritty, psychologically layered crime story.

The showcase introduced viewers to DCP Rita Ferreira, a sharp and quietly intense Mumbai police officer whose pursuit of a calculating killer pushes her into the city’s darkest moral corners.

The platform confirmed in its press release that the series will stream soon on Prime Video in India and across more than 240 countries and territories.

A psychological crime thriller, ‘Daldal’ is based on Vish Dhamija’s bestselling novel Bhendi Bazaar and marks another significant collaboration between Prime Video and Abundantia Entertainment.

Created for the screen by Suresh Triveni and produced by Vikram Malhotra and Triveni, the series is directed by Amrit Raj Gupta and stars Bhumi Satish Pednekkar, Aditya Rawal and Samara Tijori in the lead roles.

The special in-room teaser preview at IFFI was followed by a panel discussion, “Beyond the Stereotype: Redefining Women and Power in Modern Storytelling,” which brought together the cast and creative team for an in-depth conversation on the show’s themes and character arcs.

During the session, Nikhil Madhok, Director & Head of Originals at Prime Video India, spoke about the platform’s approach to building nuanced, female-led narratives that break long-standing stereotypes. He noted that streaming has opened the door for stories where women are written with agency and complexity, far removed from the confines of earlier mainstream portrayals. Madhok highlighted how ‘Daldal’ continues this intention, placing a layered female protagonist at the heart of a morally challenging narrative.

Bhumi Satish Pednekkar, who essays the role of DCP Rita Ferreira, described the part as one of the most demanding performances of her career. She said the character required her to rely less on dialogue and more on subtle physical expressions to portray Rita’s emotional turmoil, inner conflict and restrained power.

Preparing for the role, she added, had been emotionally intense but immensely rewarding because of the team’s commitment to creating a female character who is strong without being simplified.

Producer Vikram Malhotra said Abundantia Entertainment has long been committed to portraying women with authenticity and dimensionality, noting the company’s earlier titles such as ‘Shakuntala Devi’, ‘Sherni’, ‘Jalsa’ and ‘Hush Hush’. He emphasised that the intention is to tell human stories rather than categorising them by gender, and ‘Daldal’ continues this philosophy by embracing nuance and emotional truth.

Suresh Triveni, the series’ creator, said what drew him to the project was its refusal to settle into predictable crime-thriller patterns. Instead of focusing solely on solving the mystery, ‘Daldal’ examines the origins of darkness, exploring the internal battles that shape people’s actions. Director Amrit Raj Gupta added that the team worked consciously to keep the performances understated, allowing the characters’ vulnerabilities and flaws to emerge organically on screen.

With its atmospheric narrative, powerful characterisation and strong creative vision, ‘Daldal’ has emerged as one of Prime Video’s most anticipated upcoming originals.

The series will premiere soon on the platform for audiences in India and more than 240 countries and territories worldwide.
