‘Sankalp’, a socio-political thriller directed by National Award-winning filmmaker Prakash Jha, has started streaming on Amazon MX Player, marking the OTT debut of veteran actor Nana Patekar.
Produced by Jyoti Deshpande for Jio Studios along with Dishaa Jhaa under the banner of PJP Films Productions, the series explores the intersection of power, politics and influence against the backdrop of Bihar and Delhi.
According to a Amazon MX Player press release, the series unfolds in a world where power is not just contested through elections but cultivated through mentorship, loyalty and strategic influence. At the centre of the story is Ma’at Saab, played by Nana Patekar, an educator who quietly shapes the corridors of power by placing his protégés within the bureaucracy. As ambitions intensify and loyalties begin to shift, the narrative evolves into a gripping ideological battle between mentor and protégé.
The series brings together a strong ensemble cast including Sanjay Kapoor, Mohammed Zeeshan Ayyub, Neeraj Kabi, Kubbra Sait and Kranti Prakash Jha. Each character represents a different dimension of ambition and authority, contributing to the larger political chessboard where influence, loyalty and power constantly collide.
One of the defining highlights of the show is Nana Patekar’s long-awaited entry into the OTT space. Reuniting with filmmaker Prakash Jha, known for crafting powerful political narratives, Patekar portrays Ma’at Saab as a strategist who understands the mechanics of power better than those around him. His intense screen presence and commanding performance form the backbone of the series.
The narrative also draws inspiration from the enduring strategic philosophy of Chanakya, adapting elements of his approach to statecraft and political strategy into a contemporary political setting. In this modern interpretation, the battlefield is not kingdoms but the machinery of governance itself, where influence is built quietly and decisive moves are often made long before they become visible.
With its layered storytelling and high-stakes political drama, ‘Sankalp’ aims to explore the complex dynamics between ideology, authority and personal ambition. The series is available to stream for free on Amazon MX Player and can be accessed across multiple platforms including the MX Player app, the Amazon shopping app, Prime Video, Fire TV, smart TVs and Airtel Xstream.
