Amazon MX Player has unveiled the trailer of its upcoming socio-political thriller ‘Sankalp’, marking the much-anticipated streaming debut of veteran actor Nana Patekar. The series, directed by National Award–winning filmmaker Prakash Jha, will stream for free from March 11 on the platform.
According to a press release, ‘Sankalp’ is inspired by the ancient chronicles of Chanakya and Chandragupta Maurya, reimagining political strategy for modern India. The series places its narrative within a world where the dynamics of power, influence and ideology unfold through institutions and individuals, presenting a gripping clash between ambition and authority.
Presented by Jio Studios and produced under the banner of PJP Films, the series features an ensemble cast including Sanjay Kapoor, Mohammed Zeeshan Ayyub, Neeraj Kabi, Kubra Sait and Kranti Prakash Jha in pivotal roles. Produced by Jyoti Deshpande and Dishaa Jhaa, the series explores a politically charged narrative anchored by Patekar’s character Ma’at Saab.
Set against influential political and academic environments, the story follows Ma’at Saab, an authoritative educator whose leadership is built on principles of values, loyalty and unwavering dedication. The trailer hints at a powerful confrontation between mentor and mentee, gradually exposing the moral cost of ambition and the delicate balance between guidance and dominance.
Speaking about his OTT debut, Patekar said that portraying Ma’at Saab allowed him to explore a new dimension as an actor. He described the character as layered with silence, conflict and consequences, adding that collaborating again with Prakash Jha made the project even more special. He also expressed excitement about making his streaming debut with Amazon MX Player and sharing the story of Sankalp with audiences.
Amogh Dusad, Director and Head of Content at Amazon MX Player, said the series presents a sharp and contemporary socio-political narrative built around larger-than-life characters and themes of power, belief and motivation. He noted that the show reflects the platform’s focus on culturally rooted stories that spark meaningful conversations, while continuing its creative collaboration with Prakash Jha.
Director and producer Prakash Jha added that storytelling carries a certain responsibility and that ‘Sankalp’ examines power, intent and consequence in a way that stays with viewers. He said the collaboration with Amazon MX Player and Jio Studios enabled the story to reach wider audiences and create a narrative that provokes thought about the world around us.
‘Sankalp’ will stream for free from March 11 exclusively on Amazon MX Player and will be available through its apps on mobile devices, the Amazon shopping app, Prime Video, Amazon Fire TV and connected televisions.
