Prime Video has introduced a new add-on subscription—NFDC – Cinemas of India—bringing a meticulously curated selection of timeless Indian classics to its platform. For just Rs.199 per year, viewers can now access a cinematic treasure trove that spans languages, genres, and eras, featuring acclaimed films from legendary directors like Satyajit Ray, Shyam Benegal, Mira Nair, and Kalpana Lajmi.
The collection is a celebration of India’s cinematic heritage and includes revered titles such as ‘Mirch Masala’ (Hindi), ‘Ghare Baire’ (Bengali), ‘Doghi’ (Marathi), ‘Jameela’ (Tamil), ‘Rudaali’ (Hindi), ‘Parinamam’ (Malayalam), ‘Percy’ (Gujarati), ‘Str’i (Telugu), ‘Gandhi’ (Hindi), and many more, Prime Video India said in a press statement.
NFDC – Cinemas of India, curated by the National Film Development Corporation, is known for showcasing thought-provoking and socially impactful films. This special add-on will now make it easier for audiences to discover or revisit award-winning gems such as Agantuk (Bengali), Satyajit Ray’s last film which won accolades at the Venice Film Festival and the National Film Awards, and ‘Salaam Bombay!’ (Hindi), which was celebrated internationally with awards at Cannes, a BAFTA nomination, and even an Academy Award nod for Best International Feature Film.
The library also includes ‘Qissa’ (Punjabi), which won the Netpac Award at the Toronto International Film Festival, and ‘Paar’ (Hindi), a film that received the UNESCO Award at Venice. Other regional titles like ‘Bioscope’ (Malayalam), ‘Kaliyachan’ (Malayalam), ‘Tiladaanam’ and ‘Thodu’ (Telugu) bring into focus the linguistic diversity and storytelling depth of Indian cinema.
