The Ministry of Information and Broadcasting (MIB) has started consulting the digital news industry to review the rules that govern online news publishers.

According to a Storyborad report, the move follows a consultation meeting organised by NITI Aayog, where industry representatives discussed the current regulatory framework and shared their concerns.

As part of the consultation process, the MIB has asked digital news publishers and other stakeholders to submit detailed written feedback on the existing rules and any proposed legal provisions.

The ministry will review these suggestions before deciding whether changes to the current regulations are required. Digital News Publishers Association (DNPA) attended the meeting and highlighted key issues affecting the digital news industry.

The association is now preparing a joint submission based on feedback from its member publishers. Representatives from Zee Media, The Indian Express Online and the DNPA were among those who participated in the discussions.

No new rules or laws have been announced so far. The government is currently gathering feedback from the industry and is expected to take a decision on any future regulatory changes only after reviewing the suggestions received.
