NDTV Profit has appointed Rajesh Sundaram as Senior Editor – Assignment, bringing into its newsroom a seasoned editorial leader with over three decades of experience across Indian and international media landscapes. The move signals the network’s continued focus on strengthening its newsroom leadership and editorial depth.
According to an NDTV Profit press release, Sundaram’s appointment adds significant operational and editorial expertise to the organisation at a time when newsrooms are evolving rapidly across platforms. His career spans more than 32 years, during which he has worked across editorial, managerial, and consultative roles, contributing to the building and scaling of multiple news organisations.
Sundaram began his career with Businessworld in 1994 before moving to Zee News, where he served as Bureau Chief across Mumbai and Chennai. In 2002, he joined NDTV as part of its political bureau, contributing to coverage during a crucial phase in India’s political landscape. He later expanded his global experience with Al Jazeera International as India Correspondent, reporting on key geopolitical developments.
Over the years, Sundaram has played a pivotal role in launching and shaping several prominent news platforms. At NewsX, he was part of the leadership team that established its news operations. He went on to serve as Editor at Headlines Today, followed by a leadership role at News Nation, where he helped launch both the channel and its digital ecosystem.
His international stint includes leading the launch of ANN7 as Editor-in-Chief, overseeing television and digital operations. Back in India, he led the launch of regional platforms such as News7 Tamil and Cauvery News, and later served as Principal Consultant for the launch of Lokshahi.
In recent years, Sundaram has worked in consulting roles with organisations including Business Today and The Himalayan Times. Before joining NDTV Profit, he was associated with Press Trust of India, where he helped build and lead its video service and content studio, expanding the agency’s multimedia capabilities.
With this appointment, NDTV Profit is expected to further strengthen its assignment desk and editorial operations, leveraging Sundaram’s extensive experience in newsroom strategy, content execution, and platform integration.
