Amazon MGM Studios has released a new trailer for its upcoming film ‘I Play Rocky’, which tells the true story of how Sylvester Stallone fought to make the iconic film ‘Rocky’ and play its lead character. The film stars Anthony Ippolito as a young Stallone and is directed by Academy Award-winning filmmaker Peter Farrelly.
According to an Amazon statement yesterday , ‘I Play Rocky’ will release in select theatres on November 6, followed by a wider theatrical release later in November.
The film follows Stallone when he was an unknown actor trying to establish himself in Hollywood. After writing the script for ‘Rocky’, he insisted on playing the lead character, Rocky Balboa, himself. Despite facing repeated rejection, Stallone remained committed to his vision and risked everything to bring the story to the big screen.
The original ‘Rocky’ was released in 1976. The upcoming film explores the story behind the making of the boxing drama and Stallone’s determination to create and star in it. ‘I Play Rocky’ is scheduled to arrive in theatres nearly 50 years after the original film’s release.
Along with Anthony Ippolito, the cast includes Matt Dillon, AnnaSophia Robb, P.J. Byrne, Toby Kebbell, Tracy Letts, Jay Duplass, Stephan James, Kiki Seto, Robert Morgan, Saul Stein, Trevor St. John, Erik Palladino and Rob Demery.
Peter Farrelly has directed the film from a script written by Peter Gamble. Toby Emmerich, Christian Baha and Farrelly have produced it through Fireside Films and Baha Productions.
