The News Broadcasters & Digital Association (NBDA) has issued a strong condemnation following the physical manhandling of Shiv Prasad Yada, an iTV Correspondent, by political party workers during the Nyay Jodo Yatra in Rae Bareli.
The incident, which occurred on February 21, 2024, has raised concerns about the safety and freedom of the press in the country. The NBDA, representing media organizations across the nation, expressed its deep concern over the assault, labeling it as not only unacceptable but also a direct attack on the fundamental principles of freedom of speech and expression.
In a statement released yesterday, the NBDA emphasized that journalists play a crucial role in ensuring an informed citizenry and holding those in power accountable. Any act of violence against journalists not only hampers their ability to carry out their duties but also undermines the democratic fabric of the nation.
The NBDA categorically stated that there can be no justification for the physical harm inflicted upon journalists while performing their professional duties. The association called upon the administration to take immediate and stringent action against the individuals responsible for the attack on Shiv Prasad Yada.
The Nyay Jodo Yatra, a political event in Rae Bareli, has been marred by this incident, bringing attention to the need to safeguard the freedom of the press. The NBDA urged political parties and their supporters to respect the role of journalists in a democratic society and to allow them to report without fear of intimidation or violence.
This incident adds to the growing concerns about the safety of journalists in the country and highlights the importance of ensuring a secure environment for media professionals to carry out their responsibilities without fear of reprisals. The NBDA, along with various media organizations, is closely monitoring the situation and will continue to advocate for the protection of journalists’ rights and the freedom of the press.
