Oscar-winning actor Natalie Portman is set to headline the upcoming psychological thriller ‘Pumping Black’, alongside Jonathan Bailey, best known for his role in the popular series ‘Bridgerton’. The film brings together two acclaimed performers for a story set in the high-stakes world of professional cycling.
According to a PTI report, the film will be directed by Mimi Cave, who previously helmed Fresh. Set against the intense backdrop of competitive cycling, ‘Pumping Black’ explores ambition, pressure, and the psychological toll of staying at the top in a demanding sport.
The narrative follows Taylor Mace, a 35-year-old cyclist grappling with the reality of ageing out of professional competition. His journey takes a dramatic turn when he comes under the influence of Andrea Lathe, a doctor driven by her own relentless pursuit of victory and control. As the story progresses towards the Tour de France, Taylor is pushed into increasingly dangerous territory as he struggles to protect a secret that could change everything.
Described as an adrenaline-fuelled and unsettling thriller, the film draws tonal comparisons to intense character-driven dramas like ‘Whiplash’ and ‘Black Swan’. With its mix of psychological depth and high-pressure sporting drama, ‘Pumping Black’ is expected to deliver a gripping cinematic experience.
