Director Manu Anand’s much-anticipated spy action thriller ‘Mr X’, starring Arya, Gautham Karthik and Manju Warrier, is finally gearing up for a theatrical release this April. The announcement comes after months of anticipation surrounding the project, which has been positioned as a high-stakes action drama rooted in the world of intelligence and national security.
According to an IANS report, the director himself confirmed the development through a social media post, expressing gratitude to the team and hinting at the long journey behind the film’s completion. The announcement signals the end of what the makers described as a prolonged production phase, building curiosity among audiences eager for a large-scale action entertainer.
Produced by Vineet Jain and S Lakshman Kumar, Mr X is said to be inspired by multiple real-life incidents, particularly five major threats to the country that were successfully thwarted by intelligence agencies. This real-world influence adds a layer of authenticity to the narrative, setting it apart from conventional spy thrillers.
The film boasts an ensemble cast that includes Sarathkumar, Anagha, Athulya, Raiza Wilson and Kaali Venkat, alongside the lead trio. With its wide-ranging cast and layered storyline, the film aims to deliver both scale and depth in storytelling.
Shot over more than 100 days, the production spanned multiple locations across India, including Rajasthan, Hosur, Chennai, Mysore and Tuticorin. Portions of the film were also shot internationally, with Azerbaijan doubling up for key sequences after initial plans to shoot in Uganda were reconsidered.
Directed by Manu Anand, best known for his film ‘FIR’, the project brings together a strong technical team. The film features music by Dhibu Ninan Thomas, cinematography by Arul Vincent, editing by Prasanna G K, and action choreography by Stunt Silva, with art direction handled by Indulal Kaveed.
With its blend of real-world inspiration, international scale, and a strong ensemble cast, ‘Mr X’ is shaping up to be a significant addition to the spy thriller genre as it heads for its April theatrical release.
