Filmmaker Karan Johar on Wednesday unveiled the much-anticipated first poster of ‘Homebound’, just days before the film is set to make its world premiere at the prestigious Cannes Film Festival.
The poster, which features lead actors Ishaan Khatter and Vishal Jethwa, was shared by Johar on his Instagram account, creating a stir among cinema lovers and fans alike.
According to an ANI report, the film is directed by ‘Masaan’ fame Neeraj Ghaywan and stars Ishaan Khatter, Vishal Jethwa, and Janhvi Kapoor in key roles. Homebound will be screened in the Un Certain Regard section at Cannes on May 21, a space known for celebrating bold and distinctive storytelling voices. This marks a significant return for Ghaywan, whose debut feature Masaan won two awards in the same category at Cannes in 2015.
In his Instagram post, Johar wrote: “Some bonds carry us through. Presenting the first poster for HOMEBOUND, directed by Neeraj Ghaywan and starring Ishaan Khatter, Vishal Jethwa, and Janhvi Kapoor. Premieres at the Cannes Film Festival on 21st May 2025.” The poster showcases a solemn and evocative visual tone, hinting at a deeply emotional narrative centered around friendship and resilience.
Adding to the film’s global credibility, legendary director Martin Scorsese has joined the team as executive producer. The film is produced by Karan Johar, Adar Poonawalla, Apoorva Mehta, and Somen Mishra. Marijke de Souza and Melita Toscan Du Plantier serve as co-producers.
With Homebound, Ghaywan is once again set to bring an emotionally grounded story with social undertones to the global stage. The film is expected to explore themes of friendship, struggle, and survival, set against a North Indian backdrop. Ishaan Khatter and Vishal Jethwa, both known for their powerful performances, are reportedly playing two young men from a rural village who are preparing for careers in law enforcement.
Apart from ‘Homebound’, Indian cinema is making a strong presence at Cannes this year with Satyajit Ray’s restored classic ‘Aranyer Din Ratri’ and Anupam Kher’s directorial ‘Tanvi The Great’ also scheduled for special screenings.
The Cannes screening of Homebound will be closely watched by cinephiles and critics, as anticipation builds around another Indian title making its mark at the global film festival.
