Instagram’s in-house creator tool, Edits, has quietly marked its first year in the market, evolving from a basic editing utility into a more comprehensive content creation platform. Launched on April 22, 2025, the app has added over 130 features since its debut, reflecting a consistent push to refine the creator experience through regular updates and user-driven improvements.
According to an Instagram report, the app developed by Meta in collaboration with creators—has followed an iterative development approach. Led by Brett Westervelt, the Edits team has focused on continuously building, testing, and refining features based on feedback, allowing the platform to grow organically in line with creator needs.
Over the past year, the platform has concentrated on simplifying essential editing functions such as trimming, captioning, and audio-visual adjustments. Among the notable additions is an in-app teleprompter, enabling smoother recording, along with tools for script reading and voiceovers. These features are aimed at making content creation more seamless, particularly for users producing short-form videos.
At the same time, Edits has expanded beyond basic editing into the ideation stage. A newly introduced “Ideas” hub allows users to save references including reels, audio clips, and notes, while also offering personalised recommendations, comment insights, and automated prompts. This shift indicates a broader ambition—to support creators not just in execution, but in planning and conceptualising content as well.
On the community side, the platform has introduced creator-led templates and educational tools, giving users access to editable project files that can be explored and adapted. This has opened up opportunities for learning and collaboration, with more advanced templates and sharing features expected in the next phase of development.
Looking ahead, Meta plans to roll out further enhancements such as bilingual captioning, advanced colour grading, and improved speed controls, along with greater customisation options for workflows and interface layouts.
As short-form video continues to dominate digital consumption, Edits is steadily positioning itself as more than just an editing tool. With its expanding feature set and creator-first approach, it is shaping up to be a companion platform that evolves alongside the needs of its users.
