The ‘Mirzapur’ gang brought its trademark mix of swagger, humour and behind-the-scenes insight to Amazon India’s Hyderabad campus, where the cast fielded questions on fan love, favourite dialogues, new characters, the making of ‘Mirzapur: The Movie’ and what lies ahead for the franchise.
With the theatrical release set for September 4, the interaction, which happened earlier in the week, also offered a glimpse of the film’s larger-than-life ambitions — and the business thinking tucked into its famously punchy dialogue, according to an Amazon Prime Video statement yesterday.
The cast members assembled at Amazon India’s All-India Meeting 2026 included Ali Fazal, Divyenndu, Pankaj Tripathi, Shweta Tripathi, Rasika Dugal, Harshita Gaur, Shreya Pilgaonkar and newcomers Ravi Kishan, Jitendra Kumar and Sonal Chauhan. Director Gurmmeet Singh joined them for the event.
Asked to sum up ‘Mirzapur’ in one word, Divyenndu went straight for “bhaukaal”, while Fazal chose “jalwa”, saying the film “is not just ours —it belongs to the fans”. Shweta called it “love”, while Harshita described the franchise as “family” — a nod to the bond between the ensemble and its audience.
The conversation naturally turned to the lines that have escaped the screen and entered everyday pop culture.
Pankaj Tripathi picked his character’s business-minded maxim: “Vyapar hamare hisaab se chalta hai. Hum vyapar ke hisaab se nahi.” Dugal cited Guddu Bhaiya’s ‘Mirzapur’ line, “Start majboori mein kiye the, ab maza aane laga hai”, while Shweta highlighted Golu’s observation: “Yaad rahe, buddhi wale log hi is violence ko rok sakte hain.”
Born From Fan Demand: For director Singh, the move from streaming to theatres is fundamentally a celebration of the audience’s affection for the franchise.
“The fans manifested this,” he said, describing the film as “an absolutely new story” that is “larger than life, full of bhaukaal, a lot of fun”.
There is a business twist to the humour too. Singh noted that the writers came from corporate backgrounds in marketing and sales, and that sensibility has found its way into the film’s dialogue.
Babban Yadav’s opening line, he revealed, invokes a cost-benefit calculation to justify inflicting two wounds with one strike.
Ravi Kishan, who plays the new character Babban Yadav, offered perhaps the most colourful introduction.
Babban, he said, is both dangerous and a lover, with Sonal Chauhan playing his love interest, Mumtaz Bibi. His weapon of choice? “I have a lovely little pair of scissors.”
Kishan also recalled Babban’s darkly comic response while stabbing someone: “Arre saala, khoon kam nikal raha hai.” His solution: “Tera haemoglobin kam hai re.”
Jitendra Kumar, stepping into the ‘Mirzapur’ universe after becoming widely known for ‘Panchayat’, kept his assessment simple: “‘Mirzapur’ is a very beautiful world. Being part of it was new for me, and I enjoyed it thoroughly.”
Familiar Faces, New Layers: Pilgaonkar, whose character Sweety was killed in Season 1, joked about her return: “Felt great to be back from the dead.”
She said the film retains nostalgia while bringing a genuine sense of togetherness among the team.
Chauhan also recalled her first brush with the ‘Mirzapur’ family. She and Fazal happened to be on the same flight from Dubai, where he sent her a note reading “Welcome to Mirzapur”.
“From that flight onward, it felt like I was already part of the family,” she said.
For the returning cast, the film also plays with the franchise’s own timeline. Fazal said memories have been woven into the movie whose significance audiences will understand in upcoming seasons.
Dugal added that the actors have, in a sense, “already lived the future” and are returning to play their characters, giving the experience an unusual perspective.
Singh described these connections as a “treasure chest” for viewers — a story containing hidden details that fans can keep discovering and connecting.
Fun, Music & The Stakes: The interaction moved beyond characters and plot into personal reflections, music and the franchise’s future.
Tripathi credited Singh for the opportunities the journey has brought him, saying he is “blessed” and “thankful”. He also pointed to strong advance bookings worldwide and assured fans that the film would not disappoint.
Kishan singled out the music, mentioning Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan’s ‘Saanson Ki Maala’ and singer Madhur Sharma. He noted that the track plays over Dugal’s character and acquires a dangerous edge as Beena appears with a gun.
And, when the cast was asked which other character they would play, Divyenndu had one answer: Kaleen Bhaiya — though, he joked, Tripathi would not surrender the role easily. Dugal, meanwhile, was perfectly happy retaining Beena. Kishan called Babban Yadav “the role of a lifetime”.
‘Mirzapur: The Movie’ is directed by Gurmmeet Singh and written by Puneet Krishna. It is presented by Amazon MGM Studios and Excel Entertainment, produced by Ritesh Sidhwani and Farhan Akhtar, and co-produced by Kassim Jagmagia and Vishal Ramchandani.
The film releases in theatres across India on September 4.
