Disney and Pixar’s ‘Toy Story 5’ grossed an estimated $312 million worldwide in its opening weekend, including $160 million from domestic markets and $152 million internationally, making it the biggest global box-office debut of 2026, according to The Walt Disney Company.
The film, according to a Disney statement yesterday, also recorded the largest opening weekend in the history of the ‘Toy Story’ franchise across domestic, international and worldwide markets. Disney said the release marked the second-biggest animated domestic debut of all time, behind Pixar’s ‘The Incredibles 2’.
‘Toy Story 5’ reunites Woody, Buzz Lightyear, Jessie and other familiar characters as they encounter Lilypad, a new tablet character. The latest instalment continues a franchise that began with ‘Toy Story’ in 1995 and has since expanded across films, streaming, theme parks, cruise experiences and consumer products.
Reflecting on the evolution of the series, Andrew Stanton, director of ‘Toy Story 2’ and now Vice President-Creative at Pixar Animation Studios, said the films have grown alongside their audience. “The toys don’t age, but the kids do,” he added, noting that each instalment offers audiences a different perspective as they move through life.
Disney said the film has also received a strong critical and audience response. ‘Toy Story 5’ earned a 93 percent ‘Certified Fresh’ critics’ score on Rotten Tomatoes, a 95 percent Verified Moviegoers score and an ‘A’ CinemaScore.
Ahead of the film’s release, the first four ‘Toy Story’ movies generated more than 60 million viewing hours on Disney+, which the company described as the largest lift ever recorded for an upcoming theatrical release.
Prior to ‘Toy Story 5’, the franchise’s four films had collectively earned more than $3 billion worldwide, with two titles surpassing the $1 billion mark individually.
Disney added that the ‘Toy Story’ franchise has received 11 Academy Award nominations and won three Oscars, including two for Best Animated Feature and one for Best Original Song.
