Oscar-winning director Danny Boyle’s upcoming film ‘Ink’ has been selected as the opening film of the 83rd Venice International Film Festival.
According to an AP report, the film will have its world premiere on September 2, 2026, and will also compete for the festival’s prestigious Golden Lion award.
The film is based on British playwright James Graham’s popular stage play ‘Ink’ and focuses on the early career of media businessman Rupert Murdoch.
The story is set in 1969, when Murdoch acquired the British newspaper ‘The Sun’ and worked with editor Larry Lamb to transform it into one of the most widely read newspapers.
Guy Pearce will play the role of Rupert Murdoch, while Jack O’Connell will portray Larry Lamb. The cast also includes Claire Foy in a key role.
Director Danny Boyle, known for films such as ‘Slumdog Millionaire’ and ‘Trainspotting’, returns with this media-focused drama that explores the rise of a major newspaper and the changing landscape of British journalism.
The original play ‘Ink’, written by James Graham, first premiered in London in 2017 and later moved to Broadway. It received critical acclaim and earned several major award nominations, including Tony Awards recognition.
The Venice Film Festival, one of the world’s oldest and most prestigious film festivals, will host the film’s first screening.
With its focus on media power, journalism and Murdoch’s early career, ‘Ink’ is expected to be one of the major highlights of the 2026 festival.
