JioStar’s four South Indian editions of ‘Bigg Boss’ have crossed 550 million watch hours in just five weeks, marking the biggest launch in the franchise’s history across Tamil, Telugu, Kannada and Malayalam.
For the first time, all four editions premiered on the same day, bringing audiences across the region together for a shared entertainment event while retaining the distinct identity of each market. The simultaneous launch helped deliver the franchise’s strongest opening to date, with overall watch time rising 20 percent year-on-year.
Engagement has also extended beyond the daily episodes, with the 24×7 live feed emerging as a key part of the viewing experience. According to JioStar, six in 10 viewers are also engaging with the live feed, indicating that audiences are following conversations, relationships and developments inside the house throughout the day.
Krishnan Kutty, Head – Entertainment Business, South Cluster, JioStar, said crossing half a billion watch hours in five weeks was an important milestone, but the growing time audiences spend with the franchise across daily episodes and the live feed was equally encouraging.
He added that launching all four editions simultaneously created a shared entertainment moment across South India, while rising Connected TV consumption reflected changing audience behaviour. These trends, he said, strengthened the company’s confidence in the franchise’s long-term potential.
The strong viewership has also translated into advertiser interest. More than 75 brands have partnered with the four editions, accounting for over 120 sponsorships. More than half of the participating brands are first-time advertisers, while local advertisers contribute approximately 30% of total advertising spends.
The participating brands span categories including automobiles, consumer electronics, personal care, food and beverages, financial services, healthcare, retail, real estate and home improvement. Advertisers include Maruti Suzuki, Asian Paints, Britannia Nutri Choice, Haier, Amazon, Colgate, Head & Shoulders, Uber, Sprite, Nivea Soft Gel, TTK Prestige, Kajaria Ceramics, Star Health Insurance, Hero Xoom and Centuary Mattress, alongside regional businesses and brands.
Audience participation began even before the main season through ‘Bigg Boss Agnipariksha’, the franchise’s first integrated digital pre-show across all four South Indian markets. The initiative gave aspiring contestants an opportunity to compete for a place inside the Bigg Boss house, helping build anticipation ahead of the main editions.
The pre-show was presented under different names across the region: ‘Agnipariksha’ in Telugu, ‘Agniparikshe’ in Kannada, ‘Agnipareeksha’ in Malayalam and ‘The Common Man’ in Tamil.
The four editions continue to air daily on their respective television channels. ‘Bigg Boss Tamil’, hosted by Vijay Sethupathi, airs on Star Vijay; ‘Bigg Boss Telugu’, hosted by Nagarjuna, airs on Star Maa; ‘Bigg Boss Kannada’, hosted by Kichha Sudeepa, airs on Colors Kannada; and ‘Bigg Boss Malayalam’, hosted by Mohanlal, airs on Asianet.
Episodes and the 24×7 live feeds are available to stream on JioHotstar.
The latest performance highlights the franchise’s ability to combine regional programming, continuous digital engagement and advertiser participation across four distinct language markets.
