Collective Newsroom, a venture initiated by former BBC employees to facilitate BBC India‘s adherence to foreign direct investment (FDI) regulations in digital news, has designated CA firm MSKA & Associates as its inaugural statutory auditor, revealed regulatory filings.
The recently incorporated New Delhi-based company, founded on October 27, lists Rashi Sehgal and Prabhkirtan Singh Sehgal as its directors, steering the compliance strategy for BBC World Service India, The Economic Times reported.
The formation of Collective Newsroom stemmed from the departure of four BBC staff members — Rupa Jha, Mukesh Sharma, Sanjoy Majumder, and Sara Hassan — who initiated the endeavour to aid BBC World Service India in adhering to the mandated 26 percent cap on foreign ownership in India.
The initiative arose in response to BBC World Service India’s restructuring of shareholding to align with foreign ownership norms, a development initially reported by ET.
Collective Newsroom has been entrusted by the BBC to curate digital content for Indian audiences, encompassing its six Indian language services and an English-language YouTube channel aimed at viewers worldwide. The BBC caters to audiences in Hindi, Marathi, Gujarati, Punjabi, Tamil, and Telugu languages.
