Bollywood actor Aamir Khan has said he has no reservations about streaming platforms and believes that films should reach audiences in whatever format they prefer. Speaking at the 23rd Hindustan Times Leadership Summit in Delhi on Saturday, the actor stressed that his only concern is whether viewers enjoy a film — be it in theatres, on OTT platforms, or even on YouTube, PTI reported.
Aamir’s comments come in the backdrop of his recent release ‘Sitaare Zameen Par’, which, despite receiving a warm response from audiences, did not take the conventional OTT route after completing its theatrical run. Instead, the film was made available on YouTube through a pay-per-view model priced at Rs 100, a move that sparked considerable discussion within the industry about distribution strategies.
The actor, however, insisted that he is not against any platform and that the goal should always be to make cinema accessible. At the summit, he reiterated that he wants his films to be viewed without bias toward one medium over another. “As long as people enjoy the film, it doesn’t matter where they watch it,” he said, underscoring his belief that the audience’s convenience and changing consumption habits should be respected.
Aamir has long been known for experimenting with formats and release patterns, and his latest stance once again reflects his willingness to adapt to evolving viewer behaviour. With streaming platforms becoming central to content consumption and YouTube emerging as a space for direct digital releases, the actor’s perspective adds to the ongoing conversation about how Bollywood can navigate the shifting landscape.
His remarks at the summit also highlight the broader trend of creators exploring flexible release strategies — a shift driven by audience demand, digital disruption, and the expanding reach of cinema beyond theatres.
