Prime Video has officially announced that Season Three of The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power will premiere globally on November 11, 2026. The announcement was made during Amazon’s annual Upfront presentation, further building anticipation around one of the platform’s biggest original series.
According to a Prime Video press release, the fantasy drama has emerged as one of the streaming platform’s strongest global performers, attracting more than 185 million viewers worldwide. The series has also become a major driver for new Prime membership sign-ups, reinforcing its importance within Amazon’s global content strategy.
Commenting on the announcement, Peter Friedlander said the series has represented the scale, ambition and cinematic storytelling that define Prime Video’s largest global productions. He added that the strong response from audiences across the world has continued to grow as the series moves into its third season.
The show, inspired by the works of J. R. R. Tolkien, explores the legendary Second Age of Middle-earth thousands of years before the events of The Hobbit and The Lord of the Rings. The story follows the rise and fall of kingdoms, the forging of powerful alliances and the growing return of darkness across Middle-earth.
Season Three is expected to move several years ahead of the events shown in Season Two and will take place during the height of the War of the Elves and Sauron. The storyline will focus on the Dark Lord’s attempt to forge the One Ring, which becomes central to his plan to dominate Middle-earth and control its peoples.
Over the last two seasons, the series has earned praise for its large-scale world-building, visual effects and production quality. Prime Video stated that both seasons are Certified Fresh on Rotten Tomatoes. The first season remains the biggest television premiere in the history of Prime Video, while Season Two ranks among the platform’s top five most-watched returning seasons.
The second season also debuted as the number one original series on Nielsen’s Streaming Top 10 chart and reportedly remained within the top four throughout its run.
The series is produced by Amazon MGM Studios and is led by showrunners and executive producers J. D. Payne and Patrick McKay. Other executive producers associated with the project include Lindsey Weber, Justin Doble, Kate Hazell and Charlotte Brandstrom.
All episodes from the first two seasons of ‘The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power’ are currently available for streaming on Prime Video across more than 240 countries and territories in multiple languages.
