Sony Pictures Networks India has acquired the television and digital rights for the Indian Football League (IFL), formerly known as the I-League, for the 2025–26 season, further strengthening its footprint in the country’s football broadcasting space. The move adds another key domestic property to Sony’s already expansive football portfolio, according to an Economic Times report yesterday.
The acquisition underlines the network’s continued push to position itself as a comprehensive destination for football fans in India. With this addition, Sony’s portfolio now spans major domestic and international tournaments, including the Indian Super League, Durand Cup, UEFA competitions, Bundesliga and the FA Cup. The inclusion of the Indian Football League is being seen as a strategic step towards deepening engagement with grassroots and regional audiences. The league has historically played a crucial role in India’s football ecosystem, acting as a platform for emerging talent and nurturing strong local fan bases across states.
Rajesh Kaul, Chief Revenue Officer and Business Head-Sports and International at Sony Pictures Networks India, said the league represents a vital pillar of Indian football. He emphasised that the acquisition helps create a more complete football ecosystem for viewers, combining global marquee tournaments with the core of the domestic game.
The All India Football Federation Deputy Secretary General M. Satyanarayan expressed confidence that the collaboration with Sony Sports Network will further elevate the competition.
