‘Special Ops’ S2 emerges as India’s most-watched streaming title of 2025

JioHotstar’s espionage thriller ‘Special Ops’ S2 has emerged as India’s most-watched streaming original of 2025, clocking an impressive 29.6 million viewers. The series topped a fiercely competitive streaming landscape, underlining the growing appetite for high-stakes spy dramas among Indian audiences.

According to The Variety report, citing Ormax Media’s annual audience measurement data, the Friday Storytellers production led a year that saw intense competition between platforms across premium and ad-supported services. JioHotstar showcased strong dominance, securing three spots in the top 10 and four of the top 11 most-watched streaming originals of the year.

While JioHotstar commanded the top ranks, Netflix emerged as the overall leader in volume, placing 20 titles in the top 50 list. Prime Video and Amazon MX Player also delivered strong performances, reinforcing their positions as formidable players in India’s rapidly evolving streaming ecosystem.

JioHotstar followed its top-ranking success with ‘Criminal Justice: A Family Matter’, which secured the second position with 27.7 million viewers. Produced by Applause Entertainment in association with BBC Studios India, the legal drama continued the franchise’s strong connect with audiences. Close behind, Amazon MX Player’s ‘Ek Badnaam Aashram’ Season 3 Part 2 claimed the third spot with 27.1 million viewers, highlighting the rising influence of free, ad-supported streaming platforms in reaching mass audiences.

Prime Video’s flagship offerings also made a strong impact during the year. ‘The Family Man’ Season 3, produced by D2R Films, attracted 24.6 million viewers, placing it among the most-watched originals of 2025 and reaffirming the franchise’s sustained popularity.

The rankings reflect a year where compelling storytelling, franchise strength, and platform reach played decisive roles in audience engagement. With JioHotstar dominating the top positions and Netflix leading in overall presence, 2025 proved to be a defining year in India’s streaming wars, marked by scale, diversity of content, and intensifying competition across platforms.
