Instagram has introduced a new feature that gives users greater control over the Reels they see on the platform, marking a significant shift in how recommendations are personalised. Powered by AI, the feature called ‘Your Algorithm’ allows users to directly view and adjust the topics Instagram believes they are interested in, making the browsing experience more customised and transparent.
As part of the update, users can now access a summary of their top interests, tweak the topics they want to see more or less of, and even share these preferences to their Stories. The aim, Instagram said, is to give people more agency over what appears in their feeds at a time when algorithmic transparency has become a major conversation point across social platforms.
To use the feature, users simply tap the icon in the upper-right corner of any Reel—represented by two lines with hearts—to open the “Your Algorithm” panel. From there, they can explore their interest profile, tune recommendations, and guide Instagram’s AI toward content that matches their taste more accurately.
Instagram confirmed that this is just the beginning. The company plans to expand the feature beyond Reels to other discovery surfaces such as the Explore tab in the coming months. For now, the rollout is limited to users in the United States, with a global English launch scheduled soon as the platform continues refining the experience based on user feedback.
