Farhan Akhtar’s war drama ‘120 Bahadur’, which pays homage to the brave soldiers of Charlie Company of the Kumaon Regiment, has been declared tax-free in the national capital.
Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta announced the decision on Thursday, calling it a gesture of respect toward the valiant men who fought in the legendary Battle of Rezang La.
According to IANS report, the Chief Minister was quoted praising the film for its powerful retelling of the extraordinary courage and leadership shown by Major Shaitan Singh Bhati — portrayed by Farhan Akhtar — and the 120 soldiers who stood their ground during the 1962 Sino-Indian War.
Sharing her thoughts on X (formerly Twitter), Gupta wrote that the film “pays tribute to the extraordinary courage, leadership, and sacrifice” of the Charlie Company and highlights the enduring legacy of Major Shaitan Singh, whose bravery remains a defining chapter in India’s military history.
She added that the Delhi Government has decided to grant tax-free status to the film in the city from November 28 “as a special mark of respect to the valiant soldiers,” while congratulating the makers for bringing such a compelling story to screen.
The exemption is expected to boost theatre footfall, encouraging viewers across age groups to experience the heroic and emotional retelling of the Battle of Rezang La on the big screen. The film has already sparked conversations for its stirring performances, especially Farhan Akhtar’s portrayal of Major Shaitan Singh Bhati.
Veteran actress Shabana Azmi also praised Akhtar’s performance, noting the remarkable range he displays. Sharing her review on social media, she wrote that his portrayal is “sincere, heartfelt and subtle,” adding that it’s hard to believe the same actor once played Imran in ‘Zindagi Na Milegi Dobara’. She congratulated Akhtar, producer Ritesh Sidhwani and the entire team for delivering a moving cinematic tribute.
Directed by Razneesh ‘Razy’ Ghai and produced by Ritesh Sidhwani, Farhan Akhtar and Amit Chandrra, ‘120 Bahadur’ released in theatres on November 21 and continues to draw strong appreciation for its storytelling, performances and faithful depiction of one of India’s most unforgettable battles.
