JioHotstar, the streaming platform owned by JioStar, has achieved a major milestone by crossing 1 billion downloads on Google Play, joining an elite list of global apps to hit the landmark. With over 300 million paid subscribers and 500 million monthly active users, the platform has further strengthened its position as India’s largest streaming service by scale and reach.
According to a report by The Economic Times, the platform formed through the merger of JioCinema and Disney+ Hotstar attributed its rapid growth to a combination of hyperlocal content strategy, a seamless viewing experience, and strong market integration. “By combining deep local relevance with technological innovation, JioHotstar is leading the wave of digital transformation and setting new standards for how entertainment inspires, connects and creates value,” the company said in a statement.
The development follows Reliance Jio Infocomm chairman Akash Ambani’s announcement at the Reliance Industries Annual General Meeting on August 29, where he unveiled a suite of new technology features designed to revolutionize user experience on JioHotstar.
