Celebrating two decades since its release, the 2005 cult romantic drama ‘Parineeta’, starring Vidya Balan and Saif Ali Khan, is all set to return to theatres on August 29 in a restored version. The film was adapted from Sarat Chandra Chattopadhyay’s 1914 Bengali novella and directed by the late Pradeep Sarkar.

The re-release was announced jointly yesterday by PVR INOX and Vinod Chopra Films. The restoration aims to bring the timeless love story back to the big screen, offering fans a chance to relive the charm and visual richness of the film in a remastered format, a PTI report stated.

Producer Chopra, who recently won hearts with ‘12th Fail’, shared that ‘Parineeta’ holds a special place in his heart. “It’s not just a film—it’s an emotion that stayed with all of us who worked on it. Bringing it back to theatres is like bringing a piece of our heart back to life,” he said.

The film, set in 1960s Kolkata, was lauded for its soulful music, rich aesthetics, and nuanced performances. With songs like ‘Piyu Bole’ and ‘Kasto Mazza’, the soundtrack by Shantanu Moitra became a classic, while the film also starred Sanjay Dutt in a key role, adding to its timeless appeal.
