It’s celebration time at Applause Entertainment as the Aditya Birla Group-backed studio pulls off an impressive hat-trick with three streaming hits in the first half of 2025.
From ‘Black Warrant’ on Netflix to ‘Criminal Justice: A Family Matter’ on JioHotstar and ‘The Hunt: The Rajiv Gandhi Assassination Case’ on Sony LIV, the studio has once again proven its unshakable command over India’s fast-evolving digital content space.
According to a press release by Applause Entertainment, the company highlighted the unprecedented success of the three shows — each of which not only climbed the viewership charts but also sparked public debate, captured media attention, and received critical acclaim. These aren’t just shows that trend; they’ve become cultural talking points.
With its eighth anniversary approaching in August, Applause’s journey so far already reads like a remarkable case study in storytelling success. From delivering genre-defining content like ‘Scam 1992’ to courtroom dramas like ‘Criminal Justice’, and bold new offerings in real-crime docuseries with ‘Black Warrant’, the studio’s catalogue now exceeds 55 titles — each reflecting the company’s hunger to tell powerful stories, regardless of format or platform.
The studio shows no signs of slowing down. Upcoming titles include a wide mix of new seasons, original films, documentaries, and the highly anticipated Gandhi series helmed by filmmaker Hansal Mehta. It’s a slate that promises both creative risk and commercial heft.
Reflecting on the studio’s recent winning streak, Applause Entertainment’s managing director Sameer Nair said, “At Applause, our job is to keep telling stories – ambitious, audacious, disruptive, and rooted in their imagined reality. The medium may change but strong storytelling always finds its way to audiences. ‘Black Warrant‘ with Vikramaditya Motwane, ‘Criminal Justice‘ with Rohan Sippy, and ‘The Hunt‘ with Nagesh Kukunoor, each tackle very different worlds, yet they’ve all struck a chord. That’s the thrill of this game; not just chasing hits but working with diverse creators to build a body of work that entertains audiences and creates memories.”
As India’s OTT space continues to grow and fragment, Applause Entertainment isn’t just surviving the noise — it’s defining the signal. With every new project, it deepens its reputation for taste, talent, and tenacity — and in 2025, the applause seems louder than ever.
