Twitter yesterday shuttered a fake account that was started in the name of India’s Chief Justice of the Supreme Court NV Ramana after it was found the account posting fake messages on the social media platform.
Sworn in on Saturday, the Chief Justice of India does not have a Twitter, or any other social media, account, NDTV reported.
While NDTV reported that a police complaint too has been filed relating to the handle @NVRamanna, legal website Bar & Bench clarified that the Supreme Court was contemplating a formal complaint. Whatever the case may be, the fake account now has been shut down.
Ramana was sworn in by India’s President Ram Nath Kovind in a small ceremony – attendance was limited due to Covid restrictions – at Rashtrapati Bhavan in Delhi last week, NDTV said.
Meanwhile, the Indian government has justified take down/blocking of about 50 Twitter accounts/messages, including those of a member of parliament and a senior Congress Party politician.
The government justification was that those messages and accounts were found spreading unnecessary panic and hindering against the fight against Covid-19, especially at a time when the country was experiencing difficult time because of a massive and swift spread of the virus.
