‘Maze Runner’ star Dylan O’Brien is set to join the cast of the upcoming film Being Heumann, based on the bestselling memoir of iconic disability rights activist Judy Heumann.
According to PTI, the 33-year-old actor will appear alongside acclaimed performers Ruth Madeley and Mark Ruffalo. The film adapts Heumann’s celebrated autobiography ‘Being Heumann: An Unrepentant Memoir of a Disability Rights Activist’, which chronicles her lifelong fight for inclusivity and accessibility, and her central role in shaping the American disability rights movement.
Ruth Madeley, who has been a vocal advocate for disability representation on-screen, will play Heumann in what is expected to be a powerful and emotionally resonant performance. Ruffalo’s role has not been officially disclosed yet, while O’Brien’s character also remains under wraps.
Judy Heumann, who passed away in 2023, was widely regarded as a trailblazer in the global disability rights community. Her activism led to landmark policy changes, including the passage of the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA), and inspired generations to push for equality and recognition. The film aims to spotlight her remarkable life, grassroots mobilizations, and the obstacles she faced in a world built without people like her in mind.
‘Being Heumann’ is expected to not only highlight the personal and political struggles of disability rights, but also serve as a critical step in amplifying underrepresented voices in mainstream cinema.
Further casting details, release timelines, and production updates are expected in the coming months.
