Cricket and Indian summers go hand in hand—stirring passion, emotions, and unshakable loyalty among fans across the country. Channeling this sentiment into a digital narrative, Balaji Originals has launched its maiden web series, ‘The Great Indian Cricket Fan’, a heartfelt dramedy set against the backdrop of the nation’s cricket craze. The series is now live, with two episodes releasing every week.
Featuring Abigail Pande, Yuvraj Dua, Priitamm Jaiswal, and Neha Bharti, along with a spirited ensemble, the show dives deep into how cricket fever grips everyday life—changing routines, shaping friendships, and even sparking family feuds. Set during an electrifying cricket season, it portrays fans who feel the rush of victory and sting of loss as deeply as the players on the field.
As per a press release issued by the production house, ‘The Great Indian Cricket Fan’ reflects the lived experiences of millions who adjust their lives around match schedules. From missed deliveries and delayed meetings to emotional rollercoasters dictated by every over bowled, the series captures how the sport becomes life itself. With humour, heart, and nostalgia, the narrative unfolds in local cafés, homes, and fan clubs, recreating the manic spirit of match days.
Kavvya Bharathi, Head – Brand Revenue & Partnership at Balaji Telefilms Ltd, said, “Balaji has always been known for its compelling storytelling that deeply resonates with audiences in the heartland. With The Great Indian Cricket Fan, our first offering under Balaji Originals, we’re excited to expand our reach and connect with a younger demographic by tapping into India’s unmatched passion for cricket. This dramedy captures the true spirit of a cricket fan—their loyalty, their rituals, and the electric atmosphere in local cafés during matches.”
The show also marks the digital debut of Abigail Pande under the Balaji Originals banner. Expressing her excitement, she shared, “Honestly, it was so much fun shooting for The Great Indian Cricket Fan. The energy on set was absolutely palpable! If you’ve been missing Sia Dhillon, you’re going to love this show—because I genuinely loved being a part of it. While we’ve often seen stories around football fan rivalries, cricket—which is practically a religion in India—hadn’t been tapped into like this.”
She added that the team has tried to capture the euphoria inside cafés that double up as makeshift stadiums during matches. “This show will definitely make you want to head to a café with your gang and cheer for your favorite team!”
Yuvraj Dua, known for his social media presence and love for the game, called the show a personal milestone. “Being a sports enthusiast since childhood, I naturally gravitated toward sports journalism—and then social media found its way into my life. But through all the transitions, one thing remained constant: my love for cricket. When I signed The Great Indian Cricket Fan, the first thought that crossed my mind was—wow, a show about sports! This time, I wouldn’t be acting; I’d just be myself in front of the camera.”
From skipping dinners to obsessively sticking to ‘lucky’ spots while India played, Dua said the script felt like an echo of his real-life cricket fandom. “To be one of the first faces representing a platform launching something so rooted in our culture—it’s a proud, full-circle moment for me,” he said.
With a vibrant, emotionally charged storyline and characters that mirror the audience, ‘The Great Indian Cricket Fan’ signals a strong start for Balaji Originals, aiming to deliver authentic, high-quality content for the new-age, digital-first Indian viewer.
Catch the series now on the Balaji Telefilms Digital YouTube channel—because in India, when cricket plays, everything else can wait.
