Prime Video recently unveiled a new session of ‘Maitri: Female First Collective’, where seven prominent women from India’s entertainment industry came together to discuss the impact of the female gaze on storytelling.
The session featured Ananya Panday, Kritika Kamra, Ishita Moitra, Namrata Rao, Tanuja Chandra, Faye D’Souza, and Smriti Kiran, who delved into the importance of female perspectives in creating authentic and inclusive content.
The female gaze focuses on portraying women’s experiences through their own lens, rather than being driven by male perspectives. The panelists discussed the growing shift towards more complex, relatable portrayals of women on screen. Actor Ananya Panday emphasized her commitment to selecting projects that reflect real, flawed, and authentic women, while Kritika Kamra highlighted how streaming platforms have expanded opportunities for diverse female roles.
The session also touched on the challenges still facing women in the industry, with panelists noting that while progress is being made, the pace of change remains slow. Tanuja Chandra and Namrata Rao discussed the need for greater representation of female creators and crew members, while Faye D’Souza stressed the importance of systemic change that benefits all levels of production.
Prime Video continues its commitment to promoting Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI) through initiatives like ‘Maitri: Female First Collective’, aiming to foster more inclusive narratives and opportunities within the Indian entertainment landscape.
