Actor-turned-filmmaker Arpita Chatterjee has unveiled ‘This is Me,’ a pioneering docuseries that aims to challenge stereotypes and amplify voices from the LGBTQIA+ community.
Released exclusively on News9 Plus, the world’s first news OTT platform, during Pride Month, this five-episode series promises to enlighten and inspire viewers with its intimate narratives and expert insights.
According to a press release, ‘This is Me’ marks Chatterjee’s directorial debut in documentary filmmaking, focusing on dismantling misconceptions surrounding gender identity and sexual orientation. Through heartfelt storytelling and personal interviews, the series showcases prominent LGBTQIA+ figures, shedding light on their experiences and struggles.
At the launch event in Kolkata, Chatterjee emphasized the series’ role in fostering empathy and understanding. “This is Me addresses the misunderstood aspects of gender identity and sexual orientation, highlighting the community’s significant challenges,” she remarked.
Renowned filmmaker Onir, a staunch advocate for LGBTQIA+ rights, lauded Chatterjee’s initiative, stressing the importance of sharing diverse narratives with a wider audience.
Each episode of ‘This is Me’ explores critical themes such as gender fluidity, societal pressures, legal hurdles, and personal triumphs within the LGBTQIA+ community. Featuring insights from global experts across various fields, the series aims to educate and provoke meaningful conversations on inclusivity and acceptance.
Episode 1 delves into personal journeys of self-discovery and coming-out stories, while Episode 2 navigates the complexities of gender dysphoria and gender realignment. Episode 3 confronts historical and contemporary challenges like discrimination and bullying, while Episode 4 examines workplace inclusivity and legal advancements. Episode 5 celebrates personal victories in love, marriage, and family life among LGBTQIA+ individuals.
