The telecom regulator TRAI directed telecom operators on Tuesday to begin reporting network outages that impact all consumers in a district.
The directive has gone into action immediately.
“…access service providers have been directed to report…all incidents of major network outages affecting telecom services to all consumers in a district continuously for more than four hours, within 24 hours of their occurrence,” the Telecom Regulatory Authority of India said in a statement.
The move comes after the regulator became aware of long-term network outages in the nation, particularly in border and hilly areas, which hurt the quality of services offered, PTI reported.
TRAI has directed telecom operators to report the root cause of major network outages, as well as any corrective steps are done, within 72 hours of service restoration.
The regulator stated that the information will be gathered to determine the underlying cause of significant network outages and to obtain appropriate support from local authorities, which will be extended to telecom operators if necessary.
