American tech giant Apple has finally announced that it will be adding lossless quality audio support for Apple Music users in India. Spatial audio and Dolby Atmos support is also added and these features will be available to all iOS users.
According to Mashable, the feature will start with a few thousand songs having spatial audio /Dolby Atmos. Both ‘Lossless’ and ‘Dolby Atmos’ support will show up as distinct badges just below the name of the track users are listening to.
Since Apple Music’s entire library is now available in lossless mode, the user could simply have every track to see the stream in lossless by default. That way, with tracks that support Dolby Atmos, they’d be streaming the lossless track Atmos-enabled.
Apple has several tiers available for audiophiles to choose from. Apple Music’s lossless tier starts at CD quality, which is 16 bit at 44.1 kHz (kilohertz), and goes up to 24 bit at 48 kHz, and is playable natively on Apple devices. For the true audiophile, Apple Music also offers Hi-Resolution lossless up to 24 bits at 192 kHz.1.
Access to both spatial audio via Dolby Atmos and lossless audio does require users to update iPhone/ iPad to iOS or iPadOS 14.6.
Oliver Schusser, Apple’s vice president of Apple Music and Beats, said, “Listening to a song in Dolby Atmos is like magic. The music comes from all around you and sounds incredible. Now we are bringing this truly innovative and immersive experience to our listeners with music from their favorite artists like J Balvin, Gustavo Dudamel, Ariana Grande, Maroon 5, Kacey Musgraves, The Weeknd, and so many more. Subscribers will also be able to listen to their music in the highest audio quality with Lossless Audio. Apple Music as we know it is about to change forever.”
