Tata Play has expanded its value-added services portfolio with the launch of Tata Play Tamil TV, a dedicated ad-free entertainment service that brings back some of Tamil television’s most popular and memorable shows. The new offering is designed to give viewers uninterrupted access to a curated collection of family dramas, reality programmes, comedy shows, and mythological content from Star Vijay.
According to a Tata Play press release, the service will be available 24×7 and aims to cater to Tamil audiences looking to revisit iconic television programmes that have entertained viewers across generations. The launch comes at a time when regional entertainment continues to enjoy strong demand, particularly in Tamil Nadu, one of India’s largest and most vibrant television markets.
Despite the enduring popularity of Tamil television content, many classic programmes are no longer easily accessible to audiences. Tata Play Tamil TV seeks to bridge that gap by creating a single destination where viewers can enjoy some of the most-loved shows in an ad-free format. The initiative is expected to appeal not only to long-time fans but also to younger audiences discovering these stories for the first time.
Speaking about the launch, Pallavi Puri, Chief Commercial and Content Officer at Tata Play, said Tamil television has produced some of the most memorable stories and characters in Indian entertainment. She noted that audiences have had limited opportunities to revisit these programmes over the years and that the new service offers a convenient way to reconnect with beloved content while encouraging shared family viewing experiences.
The service features a wide range of programming across genres. Popular family dramas such as ‘Raja Rani’, ‘Saravanan Meenatchi’, ‘Eeramana Rojave’, ‘Chinnathambi’, and ‘Mounaragam’ form a major part of the line-up. These shows have enjoyed strong fan followings and are remembered for their engaging storytelling and memorable characters.
For viewers looking for lighter entertainment, the service also includes the comedy programme ‘Kalakka Povathu Yaaru’ Seasons 5 and 6, one of Tamil television’s popular stand-up comedy formats. The mythology segment is led by ‘Mahabharatham’, the Tamil version of the celebrated television epic, bringing one of India’s most iconic stories to regional audiences in their preferred language.
A JioStar spokesperson said the partnership with Tata Play provides an opportunity to bring some of Tamil television’s most iconic programmes back to viewers. The spokesperson noted that these shows have built deep emotional connections with audiences over the years and their return allows families to relive cherished memories while introducing a new generation to classic storytelling.
Designed as a family-focused entertainment destination, Tata Play Tamil TV aims to offer content that appeals to viewers of different age groups and preferences, making it a shared viewing experience for households.
The service became available from June 23, 2026, and can be accessed on Tata Play Service Number 1509 at a subscription price of Rs.2 per day. With the launch, Tata Play continues to strengthen its regional entertainment offerings while tapping into the growing demand for nostalgic and family-oriented content.
