Prime Video has announced that the second season of ‘Esports World Cup: Level Up’ will premiere globally on June 26, with all five episodes of the documentary series releasing simultaneously on the streaming platform.

Directed by Emmy Award-winning filmmaker R.J. Cutler, the docuseries takes viewers behind the scenes of the 2025 Esports World Cup, offering an intimate look at the lives, ambitions, and challenges faced by some of the world’s top esports athletes as they compete on one of gaming’s biggest stages.

Set against the backdrop of the Esports World Cup in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, the series chronicles the pursuit of a massive $70 million prize pool and the prestigious EWC Club Championship. Beyond the competition, the show focuses on the personal sacrifices, family dynamics, rivalries, and defining moments that shape the careers of elite gamers.

Produced by This Machine, a division of Sony Pictures Television, the new season continues its documentary-style storytelling approach, bringing audiences closer to the human side of esports. The production team spent seven weeks filming during the tournament and also travelled to multiple countries, including the United Kingdom, the United States, and Indonesia, to capture the personal stories of featured players outside the competitive arena.

Among the standout personalities featured in Season 2 is chess grandmaster Magnus Carlsen, who embarks on a new challenge as he transitions into the esports ecosystem. The series also follows Jake “Boaster” Howlett of Fnatic, exploring his journey from aspiring actor to one of VALORANT’s leading competitors.

Other key storylines include Chinese fighting game star Xiao Hai balancing fatherhood with competition, Indonesian Mobile Legends player Vivian’s quest for redemption, Mongolian Counter-Strike team The MongolZ’s rise to international prominence, and Call of Duty: Warzone champion Soka navigating personal and professional pressures.

The series also captures the broader spectacle surrounding the Esports World Cup, featuring appearances by global personalities from sports, music, and entertainment. Viewers will see moments involving musician Post Malone, football icon Cristiano Ronaldo, Formula One champion Lando Norris, Brazilian football legends Ronaldo Nazário and Kaká, skateboarding pioneer Tony Hawk, and tennis player Nick Kyrgios.

Speaking about the series, Ralf Reichert, CEO of the Esports Foundation, said Level Up showcases the human stories behind the competition, highlighting the ambition, pressure, and personal journeys that make esports meaningful for a global audience.

Director R.J. Cutler noted that the new season continues to explore esports as a cultural movement, focusing not only on competition but also on the dreams, identities, and sacrifices of the individuals at its centre.

The documentary arrives as esports continues its rapid global expansion. According to tournament organisers, the 2025 Esports World Cup attracted 750 million viewers worldwide, generated 350 million hours of watch time, and featured more than 2,000 players representing around 200 clubs from over 100 countries.

Meanwhile, the 2026 edition of the Esports World Cup is scheduled to take place in Paris, France, from July 6 to August 23, with competitors battling for a record prize pool of $75 million and the coveted Club Championship title.
