YouTube has introduced 24 new accessibility tags on YouTube Playables to help users find games that suit their needs and preferences. The tags will provide information about a game’s controls, audio, visual features and difficulty settings before users start playing.
According to a blog post published by YouTube on Nov 2, the new tags will be available in the information panel of games on both mobile and web versions of YouTube Playables.
The tags will help users check which control options a game supports, including touch controls, keyboard support and customisable buttons. They will also indicate whether a game allows players to avoid repeated button presses or holding controls for a long time.
The update also covers audio and visual features. Users will be able to check whether games offer narrated menus, mono or surround sound, colour alternatives, larger text and clear subtitles.
In addition, the tags will provide information about difficulty settings and save options, helping players identify games with adjustable difficulty levels and the option to save their progress at any time.
YouTube said the new tags are based on the Accessible Games Initiative, which aims to create a common way of describing accessibility features across gaming platforms. This will help players understand the features available in games on platforms such as YouTube Playables, consoles and PC stores.
YouTube has also provided an option for game developers to add accessibility tags through the developer portal’s Game Details section. Developers can select the relevant tags to describe the accessibility features available in their games.
With this update, YouTube aims to make it easier for players to find games that match their individual needs and playing preferences.
