ZEE5 is set to unearth dark secrets with its first Malayalam original series, ‘Kammatam’, a psychological crime thriller based on one of Kerala’s most unsettling real-life murder cases. Directed by Shan Thulasidharan and produced by 23 Feet Productions, the series takes viewers into the heart of Thrissur, where a seemingly straightforward accident spirals into a dark tale of silence, betrayal and moral decay.
The six-episode series is inspired by a real incident that left the State of Kerala stunned. It features a gripping narrative that follows Circle Inspector Antonio George, played by Sudev Nair, as he investigates the mysterious death of planter Samuel Umman. What appears to be a road accident becomes suspicious when a missing necklace raises questions. George’s pursuit of the truth exposes multiple leads, including Shaji, an auto driver with a criminal past who is soon found dead, and Francis, a quiet worker from Samuel’s plantation who becomes the key to unravelling a web of secrets.
Joining Nair in pivotal roles are Jins, Jeo Baby, Ajay Vaasudev, Akhil Kavalayoor, Arun Sol, Sreerekha, and Jordy Poonjaa, forming a talented ensemble cast.
“We’re proud to finally bring to life a long-awaited vision,” said Lloyd C Xavier, Business Head – Tamil & Malayalam and Sr. Vice President – Marketing South, ZEE5, “‘Kammatam’ is not just a thrilling story — it’s a reflection of our commitment to regional storytelling. With this, we’re stepping into the hearts of Malayali audiences across the globe.”
For Nair, this role meant more than a performance, “This story isn’t about the crime alone — it’s about the silences that surround it. Every gesture mattered. Working with Shan and the team made it an unforgettable journey. I’m honoured to be part of ZEE5’s first Malayalam original.”
The series will stream exclusively on ZEE5 from August 29.
