In a significant leadership change at Zee Media Corporation Ltd., Karan Abhishek Singh, Chief Executive Officer, has stepped down from his role, just over a year after assuming charge in July 2024. Alongside Singh, Rajesh Sareen, the company’s Chief Revenue Officer, has also resigned from his position. Industry sources report that Raktim Das, most recently Chief Growth Officer (Digital & Broadcasting) at TV9 Network, is expected to succeed Singh as CEO, while Manish Seth is likely to take over as the company’s CRO.
According to Industry sources, Singh’s tenure at Zee Media was marked by a focus on strengthening both digital and broadcast operations. Prior to joining Zee, he built a notable career in the Indian media sector. Singh spent over five years at Network18, serving as CEO of the Languages division from January 2019 to April 2021, and later as CEO of the Hindi News cluster (TV & Digital) from April 2021 until May 2024. His responsibilities extended across the Hindi news segment and multiple regional language channels, underscoring his experience in leading large-scale media operations.
Before his foray into media management, Singh held senior advertising sales roles at Star India between 2016 and 2018 and was Vice President of Sales for PepsiCo’s premium and new product lines from 2011 to 2013. Academically, he completed his management studies at NMIMS (1999–2001) and holds a commerce degree from Kumaun University (1996–1999).
Taking over the reins will be Raktim Das, who has been with TV9 Network since August 2021, focusing on driving digital and broadcasting growth as Chief Growth Officer. Das’s prior roles include Chief Operating Officer of TV9 Studio (Digital & Broadcasting) from July 2020 to August 2021, heading Zee Entertainment Enterprises’ Innovation Studio and Custom Content division from 2017 to 2020, executive strategy leadership at Network18 from 2014 to 2016, and serving as President at NewsX between 2013 and 2014.
Das brings with him a strong academic foundation, holding a Master’s degree in Operational Research from Delhi University and a postgraduate diploma in Media Management from the Times School of Management. With his appointment, Zee Media aims to continue its focus on digital innovation and strategic growth in both broadcast and digital platforms.
Singh’s departure and Das’s succession mark a key transition for Zee Media, signaling a renewed emphasis on growth, innovation, and strengthening its position in the competitive Indian media landscape.
