WhatsApp is adding augmented reality (AR) effects and filters for video calls, a feature that has gained popularity on platforms like Snapchat, Apple’s FaceTime and Instagram. This development is expected to roll out for Android users soon.
According to The Economic Times, the latest beta version of WhatsApp for Android (2.24.13.14) available on the Google Play Store includes signs of this new feature. The AR effects and filters will enhance video calls by adding fun and interactive elements, improving the overall visual experience.
The AR effects will allow users to personalize their video calls. Features include dynamic facial filters like a touch-up tool for smoothing skin appearance and a low-light mode to improve visibility in dim environments. These enhancements aim to make video calls more engaging and visually appealing.
In addition to AR filters, WhatsApp is planning to revamp its calling interface to improve the user experience.
