When TV9 Bangla pulled out the truth involving a scam around money extortions from a patient’s family by brokers in private hospitals in Malda, its correspondent, Subhotosh Bhattacharya, and camera person Shambow Saha were.
Accomplice of the brokers destroyed the camera and other equipment. But TV9 Bangla stood firm to reveal the truth in ‘Manusher Pashe’and brought out the truth for the viewers.
The first breaking visuals that TV9 Bangla aired was on December 5.
In a statement, the TV news channel said when it was rumoured a patient called Puja Mardi, who had given birth to a girl child, was left alone by her husband, the channel confronted the couple.
The reporter learnt the couple was misguided by the ambulance driver and admitted her to a nursing home to extort money from them. The investigation unravelled the truth. Incidentally, the couple was charged about Rs. 300,000, which was beyond the means of a migrant labour.
The patient, hailing from Dinajpur, was referred to the Malda government hospital. In an attempt to deceive the couple, the broker admitted the mother in a nursing home. When TV9 Bangla revealed the nexus between the broker and the owner of the nursing home, the TV crew was attacked.
TV9 Bangla has promised to stand by common people by carrying on such investigative reporting.
