Tilda Swinton has officially joined Colin Farrell in Edward Berger’s upcoming Netflix film, ‘The Ballad of a Small Player.’ Swinton will portray Cynthia Blithe, alongside Farrell, who was previously announced as the lead.
Directed by Edward Berger, known for ‘All Quiet On The Western Front,’ and written by Rowan Joffe based on Lawrence Osborne’s novel of the same name, the film follows the story of a high-stakes gambler laying low in Macau. As his past and debts begin to catch up with him, he encounters a kindred spirit who may hold the key to his salvation, the platform said in a statement.
The production brings together notable producers, including Mike Goodridge for Good Chaos, Edward Berger for Nine Hours, and Matthew James Wilkinson for Stigma Films. ‘The Ballad of a Small Player’ is set to shoot on location in Asia during the summer of 2024.
Good Chaos, a UK-based production outfit, boasts an impressive portfolio including ‘Triangle Of Sadness,’ ‘Sisu,’ and the Berlin prizewinner ‘Some Rain Must Fall.’\
Meanwhile, Nine Hours, an independent global Film & TV production label founded by Edward Berger, Luke Rivett, and Jeanne Tremsal, has garnered acclaim for its projects such as ‘Corner Office’ and ‘Berlin Station.’
Berger, prior to founding Nine Hours, achieved critical success with ‘All Quiet on the Western Front,’ which received numerous nominations and awards at prestigious ceremonies including the British Academy Film Awards and the Academy Awards.
His upcoming film, ‘Conclave,’ featuring Ralph Fiennes, Stanley Tucci, and Isabella Rossellini, is slated for release by Focus Features in November 2024.
