ZEE5’s latest exclusive release, ‘Tehran’, has stormed into the platform’s record books, becoming the fastest Hindi film of 2025 to cross 100 million streaming minutes within just 72 hours of its premiere. Released on August 14, the geo-political thriller has gone on to amass over 200 million minutes in its launch week, making it one of ZEE5’s most-watched titles this year.
According to a press release from the streamer, ‘Tehran’ ranked as ZEE5’s most-viewed content of 2025 by watch time, trending in the Top 3 spots across 17 Indian States. The film’s reach extended far beyond India, breaking into the Top 5 titles of the year across more than 190 countries, with particularly strong traction in the US, MENA, the UK and APAC regions.
The scale of the launch was backed by Z Network’s extensive marketing campaign. From dominating TV screens and outdoor hoardings in MP, UP and Mumbai, to taking over social media with integrated content partnerships, the promotional blitz ensured nationwide visibility. A highlight of the campaign was a spectacular visual projection of the film’s poster on the Bandra Worli Sea Link on the eve of its premiere, witnessed by thousands of onlookers along with actor John Abraham, who stars in the film.
As part of its outreach, ZEE5 also organised an exclusive screening of ‘Tehran’ with the Sushma Swaraj Institute of Foreign Service in Delhi, followed by a Q&A session with John Abraham. The actor engaged with students on the film’s narrative, foreign affairs, and the challenges of portraying such themes on screen.
Kaveri Das, Business Head – Hindi, ZEE5, said, “At ZEE5, our constant endeavour is to tell powerful stories that connect with audiences everywhere, from every pin code in India to viewers across the globe. ‘Tehran’ is a perfect example of this vision, with its intelligent narrative that blends realism with the pulse of a taut geo-political thriller. The film’s outstanding response highlights the appetite for content that is engaging, thought-provoking, and rooted.”
Abraham added, “I am truly overwhelmed by the love and response ‘Tehran’ has received on ZEE5. We poured our hearts into making this film and seeing audiences connect with something so real, intense, and thought-provoking is truly rewarding. Geo-political thrillers are a genre I truly believe in, and this response just proves that audiences want films that go beyond entertainment.”
Directed by Dinesh Vijan, ‘Tehran’ features John Abraham, Neeru Bajwa, Manushi Chhillar and Madhurima Tuli in pivotal roles. It is inspired by the 2012 magnetic bomb explosion near the Israeli Embassy in Delhi.
