ICC Cricket World Cup 2023, broadcast by Star Sports, has witnessed a substantial 22 percent increase in viewership, amassing an astonishing 59 billion minutes of watch time within the first 11 matches. The surge has been notably driven by premium audiences.
Star Sports, according to an Economic Times news, reported that viewers in NCCS A (National Consumer Classification System A) have surged by 40 percent, while NCCS B has grown by 24 percent. Live broadcasts of the initial 11 matches captivated a staggering 268 million viewers, including 96 million young working professionals aged 22-40, representing a 5 percent increase compared to the 2019 edition.
The tournament reached its zenith with nearly 56 million concurrent viewers during the electrifying India versus Australia match in Chennai on October 8.
The ET quoted a spokesperson from Star Sports as saying, “The ICC Men’s CWC 2023 has kicked off with a strong viewership growth compared to the previous edition. With the buzz surrounding the Ind v Pak match, recent upsets, and the growing fascination with the fortunes of popular teams, the tournament is poised for heightened interest and engagement.”
To elevate the viewer experience, Star Sports produced 11 feeds for the ICC Men’s CWC 2023, including feeds in nine different languages and two vertical feeds for Disney+ Hotstar.
