Filmmaker Nikkhil Advani has revealed the ensemble cast for his upcoming political thriller series titled ‘Freedom at Midnight,’ set to premiere on the streaming platform Sony LIV in the near future.
The cast includes Sidhant Gupta, known for his role in ‘Jubilee,’ portraying Jawaharlal Nehru, Chirag Vohra from ‘Scam 1992’ fame as Mahatma Gandhi, and popular TV actor Rajendra Chawla portraying Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel, PTI reported.
Co-produced by StudioNext and Advani’s Emmay Entertainment, the series is based on the book of the same name by Dominique Lapierre and Larry Collins. Advani takes on the role of showrunner and director, with the story penned by Abhinandan Gupta, Adwitiya Kareng Das, Gundeep Kaur, Divya Nidhi Sharma, Revanta Sarabhai, and Ethan Taylor.
Described as an epic political thriller drama, ‘Freedom at Midnight’ aims to bring alive pivotal moments from India’s partition, highlighting interconnected stories of key events and personalities during the year of India’s independence.
Advani expressed that the series serves as a profound tribute to the luminaries of India’s freedom movement, namely Mahatma Gandhi, Jawaharlal Nehru, and Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel. He further praised Sony LIV as an ideal platform for showcasing content that celebrates India’s heritage while resonating with global audiences.
Produced by Monisha Advani and Madhu Bhojwani through Emmay Entertainment in collaboration with StudioNext and Sony LIV, ‘Freedom at Midnight’ follows Advani’s previous collaboration with Sony LIV on ‘Rocket Boys,’ which depicted the lives of Indian nuclear physicists Homi Bhabha and Vikram Sarabhai.
